Well if you’re reading this, Welcome to My First Ever Impact Ministry Newsletter Update! Thank you for partnering with me in this journey, what follows is a quick update on what God has been doing within these first couple of weeks…
What’s Your North Star?
Having just graduated college, I frequently have been asked numerous different iterations of this question. What is your North Star? What are you working towards? What do you envision yourself doing? How do you think you can get there? Hence, in hopes of grounding this entire next chapter of my life, this is my North Star…
To empower young Black students to realize their strength, who then empower others to realize theirs.
Thus, that’s what I’m working towards; empowering others. Why? Because when I was a student there were many times when I didn’t feel empowered. Therefore, with the Impact Movement, I get to do exactly that. By grounding myself in ministry, I get to gain skills and experience to empower Black college students as disciples of Jesus Christ who go about the world and empower others!
So, as I’m sure that this “North Star” concept will probably come up again in the future, I mention it now in hopes of building a framework for my vocational future. (And I hope that through my sharing, maybe you might consider what your North Star is as well).
May 24th, 2024 - The First Day of Ministry Training
Like the start of any job, my first day of work was a bit daunting. Having zoom trainings from 9 to 5 throughout the week, I remember finishing day one feeling overwhelmed and confused. Was ministry the right decision, I thought to myself; Yet, right at that moment I received this text…
Hey Maurice! How is training going so far?
I sat in disbelief. Kayla Rogers, an Impact staff member from Texas decided to check in with me (I met Kayla during the Impact Ghana Trip last year). And through that simple little check in, I was reminded that I’m not alone.
Instantly, my feelings were replaced with awe, as I reflected on the timing of everything. Hm, maybe God was taking care of me, so I recollected my thoughts and returned to training the next day.

June 10th, 2024 - A Divine Appointment
About two weeks ago I was sharing with someone about my ministry plans and I was surprised when I they responded with this…
You know what’s crazy? Last week I was praying, and the Lord put a desire on my heart to support someone I know. So while I was praying I wondered who would might that be. Because I didn’t personally know anyone who I could support. Now I knew that in the past you had gone on mission trips and things, and I wasn’t able to support you financially at the time, but you were someone I knew, so while praying to the Lord I asked Him to help me be able to support someone I know… like Maurice.
And little did either of us know, but two days later God would orchestrate us to connect over zoom, and that individual ended up joining this team as monthly prayer and financial partner! So, once again, I sat in awe of the timing of everything. Maybe God was taking care of me, so I continued reaching out to people the next day.
Numbers Update
Given it’s been a little over 3 weeks in, I’m am extremely blessed to share that we are already around 30% of the way towards reaching my support goal! And I am incredibly blessed and grateful for everyone who’s felt led to pray, give, connect me with someone, and support me in other ways! I truly cannot do this alone, so thank you for joining this team!
My Prayer Requests
1. Continue trusting God and being patient within this Ministry Partner Development season.
2. Divine connections, that I may continue to meet new people and share with them about this ministry.
3. Housing to get secured for the fall semester, and for my car problems to be resolved.
4. The returning and incoming students who I will be working with at UMass come the fall.
